Giving back with a Halloween Gift Basket #DontBeTheDarkHouse #CBias
Monday, October 31st, 2011When I was chosen to do the Mars Candy Gift Basket, I immediately knew where I wanted it to go. I wanted to give it to our local park district. They generally do a trunk or treat every year and I thought it would be fun to give something extra to one kid. But as luck would have it, they didn’t have a trunk or treat this year. Since I wasn’t able to give it to a child through our local park district, I chose to give it to a little girl in our apartment complex. Their family has always been really sweet to use and I thought this would be a fun little thing to do for her.
The process was fairly simple. The first thing I did was look to see what candies I was going to use. I knew that Mars made Snickers but I didn’t really know what else they made. I was pleased to know that they were also the maker of Dove Chocolate and Twix. It made grabbing these candies easy since I know that they are all delicious! Then I made a list of what I wanted to get. We also needed the kids costumes and dinner for the night.
I was lucky that the day I decided to go that my husband was off of work. We all got into the car and headed out. We went earlier in the morning as to avoid the rush of people that Walmart seems to have mid afternoon. We wanted to try and get in and out so we could take the monsters to the park.
It was fairly simple find everything we needed. I mean most of the items were all together. They always use the same section of the store for their Seasonal items so that made it faster as well. It’s nice knowing were things are. They had about four aisles and a back wall dedicated to all things Halloween. I really liked that there was a wide range of things to select from. We ended up getting a mixed bag with a couple different Mars candies and then a single bag of snickers and dove chocolates.
The gift basket was fairly easy to make and set up. I really liked that we were doing something nice for someone else. I would have had the kids give it to the little girl but since Landon has a peanut allergy I can never be too careful. When we did the Bag it Forward a couple months ago, the kids loved it. They really enjoyed getting everything and then knowing they were helping another child. I guess when I say kids though I mean Landon cause Emmie really didn’t know what was going on! It is something fun we can all do together usually and it’s giving back. Probably another Halloween tradition we need to adopt!
