A Haircut for Landon!

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

I know it’s been a while since I’ve had just an update. If school wasn’t busy as is, I started an English class that’s only 8 weeks. That pretty much means 4 papers in an 8 week period. Anyway…even though I haven’t been updating all the time, we are still busy busy around here. Going to school full time and being a stay at home parent means you never stop.

Recently Landon asked for a hair cut. He hasn’t had a haircut in probably over a year because that was the last time he said he wanted one.

Before

As you can see, it had gotten kind of long and was starting to get a little tangled when it wasn’t brushed at least once a day. But he decided it was time for a trim.

After

You would think by that face, it was forced but it wasn’t. I feel like he looks so much older now. I can’t believe how big he’s getting already. My little baby is going to be five years old in about a month and a half.

Do you let your kids pick when they want their hair cut?

Winx Mat, and Mic Giveaway

What I think-

Well lets start in order of the product details above.

Dance Mat-
I really like the concept. I think Emmie, who is ALWAYS dancing her little butt off, will really love it. It will give her a nice defined area to dance in so she isn’t accidentally destroying her brothers self built train tracks. The mat has songs of it’s own, but it also has a hook up for a MP3 Player(my phone). She will be so happy to be able to dance to her favorite music but also having the Winx music makes it great for the times I can’t/ don’t want to give up my phone. I know she will be very pleased with it Christmas morning.

Rock Star Microphone-
Parents with kids who love dancing generally know that singing is an accompanied personality trait. That’s completely true of Emmie. Well, really both of the monsters love singing, but Emmie seems to like it more. I remember she wanted this cat piano toy because it had the microphone that you could sing into. She loved that toy, until it died a low battery death. I know she is going to love the Microphone. It will fit her well for two reasons. She’ll be able to handle it easy.(The dollar mics are too big for her hands.) The second reason is that it’s pink with a star. She is totally my kid!

Concert Collection Doll-
I like the simplicity. Last year we bought Em a favorite character doll that had so much stuff with it. I don’t know what we were thinking. Honestly I think we lost most of it or it was broken within 24 hours. This doll is cute and I think Emmie will have a lot of fun playing with her with some of the other toys she’s getting for Christmas. I’m also almost positive she’ll want more when she finds out there are more than one. She is really such a girls girl.

{Review} Burton the Kind Scarecrow

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

What they Say

Standing tall and straight in Farmer Green’s field, Burtonthe Scarecrow watches over the garden…and the little birds and animals nearby. As winter approaches,Burton demonstrates caring and kindness by giving of himself to help his friends find shelter. When springtime comes, that friendship comes full circle, as the grateful birds and animals hurry to Burton’s aid by mending him, providing him with a new wardrobe, and introducing him to a delightful new friend.

What I Say-

Burton really is a kind scarecrow. This story had a Giving Tree feel to it. With the Christmas season upon us, we have been trying to teach the kids more and more about giving to others. It seems, and I know they are still young, that since last year, they’ve become a tad “give me” “give me”. It’s disheartening since for me it’s the Holiday of giving and helping others. This book helped get that point across. We should be giving and helping until we can’t.

Landon and Emmie loved with the animals at the end of the book came back to help Burton after all he had done for them. I have to admit, even as an adult, I sort of did a fist pump. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen when the farmer talked of having to take Burton down after he had helped so many others.

The book highlights the words Burton and Scarecrow so it makes it easier for the kids to recognize. I though it was a really nice concept but there was a page or two where is was a little hard to see the word with night time lighting. Burton the Kind Scarecrow used some words my kids don’t hear on a regular basis which was nice to see. They asked what some of the words meant so I knew they were paying attention. They also asked questions about Burton and all the animals helping him.

We really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for the others in the collection to come out so we can buy them. You can buy Burton the Kind Scarecrow by V.A. Boeholt for $14.95(15.95 CAN)!

I received a copy of the book for my review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are true and my own!

{Review} Last Night I had a Laughmare

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

What they say

Judy Laufer’s delightful new picture book, Last Night I Had a Laughmare!, takes sleepyheads of all ages to a magical world of bedtime adventure where nothing is EVER quite what it seems! Star-hung swings? Purple hair? Shoelaces made of spaghetti? These are just a few of the surprises in store for visitors to Gigglyville…and the town’s silly residents love to have company. Bring your own chair and join Liverlips, Smellyfeet, Purplepudding and Dishes on an exciting romp through a place where special wishes are granted, snowballs are made of ice cream, and readers will be laughing ‘til morning.

What I say

Let me just say, as an avid reader, I find it VERY important to read to your kids. Sometimes it’s not always easy to find books that can capture and keep young kids attention. That isn’t a problem with Last Night I had a Laughmare by J.E.Laufer. Landon and Emaree loved the book. They thought it was such a silly book. Landon loved the rhyming. Although I will say this mama got tongue tied a couple times while reading. Emmie couldn’t take her eyes off the book. She kept pointing out things and asking questions. She loved all the activity on the pages as well as the colors. The characters were a lot of fun to. Emmie is fascinated with my pink hair so she loved that the book characters shared my weird hair color choices.

The book retails for $16.95($18.95 CAN) and I think it’s really worth it. The kids can’t get enough of Gigglyville and have asked me to read it every night since we received it!
